Let’s Get Ready to Party for the Holidays! A Holiday Party Checklist

The fall holidays are right around the corner. Corporate holiday parties, family gatherings, New Year’s celebrations with friends… they will all be happening before you know it. What do you need to be ready? This checklist will guide your holiday parties to make them a success!
Holiday Party Checklist: 6-8 Weeks Out
Set a date and announce it. People are busy, busy, so get the date out there so your invitees can save it, and prepare, if needed.
Create your guest list, set a theme and a budget. On the invitation, include time, date, location and any special instructions such as an RSVP by date. People typically want to know what to wear, so include that in the party information, such as Formal Attire or Ugly Sweater.Book your venue and any vendors if needed. The holidays are busy for everyone, so the sooner you can nail things down, the less stress, and likely the less expensive, it will be.
Holiday Party Checklist: 4-6 Weeks Out
If you are not using a professional planner, or venue planner, begin to shop for décor that matches your chosen theme. Retail stores are waiting for your dollars, so get out there and get the best picks. Research ideas online to add creativity and recruit some helpers, if needed to create centerpieces and/or décor elements.Send out official invitations, whether physical or digital. Use the theme, if possible in your announcement, invitations and webpage (if applicable).
Holiday Party Checklist: 2-4 Weeks Out
Create your grocery list. If catered, this may just include favors and gifts. If not, remember paper goods, trash bags and utensils. If the party is at your home, stock up on extra toilet paper and hand soap for those using your bathroom. If in your budget, using a professional venue saves time, stress, and can even save money. Compare your options to see if it could work for you. Confirm your venue and vendors, if appropriate. Confirm guest list to give a final head count for catering and favors. Follow up with any of the guests you haven’t heard from. Sometimes invitations get lost along the way… reach out! Consider any games or activities you want and prepare them.
Holiday Party Checklist: Within 1 week
Send a reminder to your guests. Wrap up any loose ends with vendors and venue, including payments, picking up rentals, cleaning and having all your supplies in order. Get your camera ready! Have extra batteries and memory chips available in case they are needed.
